Fringe Time!

So the Fringe is fast approaching and things are getting busy! I’m working on one show in the garden – Philip Escoffey, Six Impossible Things Before Dinner – providing local knowledge and backup for their UK marketing person. I also have some other friends coming over with another two shows – ZenZenZo with Zeitgeist and The List Operators with their self titled show.

So far the main focus is getting posters ready and up around town – while at the same time getting sponsorship and advertising doccumentation together for radelaide.net

I already have a substantial list of things on the ‘want to see’ list – 62 at last count and I’m sure I’ve added one or two since then. But planning and saving for my next trip to Edinburgh might cut out some of the more expensive acts.

I’ll keep you up to date as we go along!

The tiny skywriting alternative

I spotted this on Mashable.com the other day – real household blowflies with tiny banners attatched being released at a conference. Check it out for yourself:
I have to admit that although the marketer in me loved this idea the animal rights activist inside me cringes at the thought.

The poor flies must be exhausted carrying the extra weight – you almost feel like they are panting trying to catch their breath every time they land only to be poked by yet another curious delegate

plus – the only way I can think to attach it fast enough is using superglue which sucks the moisture out of whatever it touches – not good news when a tiny dab of glue would cover most of the surface area of a fly.

But – it did make an impact and the video is getting significant mileage on YouTube so I begin to wonder what return on investment would propel me towards including this in a campaign? How much is a tiny life worth?

Demo 09

http://www.demo.com/

The Demo 09 Conference was held in the US at the end of last week showcasing the latest in emerging technologies from a range of different areas within the industry.

For those lucky enough to catch it – the whole event was streamed live using Facebook connect so that online users could interact with each other and comment on the conference as products were being demonstrated. Users online and also in the audience were also encouraged to ‘tweet’ questions and opinions too. For more info about the social side there is an article at venturebeat.com

It was great to get a look at all the new technologies from all the different IT areas, products like software, mobile aps, hardware etc. If you look through the schedule all the companies have profile pages which includes basic information about the company and a embedded video of their presentation.

I think it was great to not only see what products are coming up but also to see how the demand for these products gives a snapshot into the new ways people interact with information and devices.
